Bulletin Aug 2010

Welcome to this month's bulletin and I hope you all had a pleasant holiday. There have been some great events enjoyed by BBA members so far this year which included an evening of entertainment with football legend Tommy Docherty, the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final Curry Supper, and the return of the popular BBA Quiz Nights.

We can now look forward to some exciting new events planned for the autumn months. There will be the return of the very popular Business Dinners and Quiz Nights starting in October, watch out for the flyers and remember to book early as seating is limited.

Please do not forget the AGM in April 2011. It is your chance to have your say or volunteer for a position on the committee.

BTO Events:

Saudi British Business Week

From its modest beginnings, Saudi-British Business Week started as a Saudi-British Day, but with the support of our local partners and companies in Eastern Province and the UK, it evolved into an event spread over one week attracting over sixty British companies. Saudi-British Business Week 2010 was the third event of its kind, and was by far the biggest to date. It was attended by 5 visiting trade delegations from different parts of the UK - Northern Ireland, Yorkshire and the Humber, the South-West and the South-East. Also represented were old friends to Eastern Province, the Middle East Association (MEA). Britain has some hugely successful, world-class exporters, both large and small and our aim was to introduce these companies to the Saudi market.

The British Trade Office organised a series of trade events and cultural activities aimed at encouraging and strengthening bilateral trade and investment as well as cultural ties between our two Kingdoms. It demonstrated how the UK values Saudi Arabia as a major trading partner, and how we want quality Saudi companies to choose the UK as a preferred business partner.

  • Events include:

    • A conference for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME's) - attracting Saudi companies eager to develop their business;

    • A "table top" networking event with the Chamber of Commerce in Dammam;

    • A trip to the Industrial City of Jubail to meet with SABIC and local business;

    • A call on Saudi Aramco;

    • A bespoke Women in Business Event;

    • A business reception at Le Meridian Hotel, Al Khobar

    • World Book day celebration British Council

    • Cultural Evening
